Marco Polo Beats - DJ Premier - Pete Rock

JR. Marco Polo.. your real name?

MP. Marco. Google the rest!

JR. Where did Marco Polo grow up, and where are you living these days?

MP. I grew up in Malton/Richmond Hill. Ontario which are both outside of Toronto. Currently I’m back and forth between Toronto and New York and sometimes my own planet.

JR. How did you get into making beats?

MP. My love for Hip Hop got stronger then just being a fan. When I heard Tribe’s first album and how funky it was…then hearing DJ Premier’s production for the first time was MIND BLASTING © Russell Peters.

JR. How long have you been making such bangers?

MP. Well, bangers since 2007. Overall beats since 2001.

JR. Favorite piece of equipment to use when making beats? MPC etc…

MP. akai MPC 2000 XL.

JR. I have an entire room full of vinyl, well over 5000 records. If you had to take a guess, how much vinyl do you think you have?

MP. about 14 crates due to limited space. Quality over quantity for me.

JR. Favorite banger that you’ve made?

MP. The Radar Remix, Double Barrel, Rearview and my newer beats for PA #2.

JR. Favorite banger made by someone other than you?

MP. Pete Rock “Game of Death” gets me every f*ckin time. DJ Premier “Nas Is Like” is also a monumental beat. Premo has a shitload of those, bastard!!! Love that guy, RIP GURU.

JR. Do you have a favorite emcee to work with?

MP. Large Pro, Masta Ace, Ruste, Torae…so many.

JR. Ever work w/ an emcee that you wouldn’t want to work with again?

MP. Yup but I’m not into negative energy so they will remain nameless.

JR. You are dropping the The Stupendous Adventures… in June, any other projects we should look for you on in the near future?

MP. Well “The eXXecution” just dropped and “Double Barrel” ain’t even that old so stop playing and go buy those too. Port Authority #2 aka PA #2 is my main goal right now.

JR. Final words and shout outs?

MP. shouts to Eugene Levy and the whole original cast of SCTV. And yourself for the interview, appreciate it.

JR. Thanks MP for letting me pick the brain of a beat making mastermind!!!! KEEP MAKING THEM BANGERS!!!!!

Marco Polo & Ruste Juxx drop The eXXecution

March 23, 2010 by Jason Rubacky · 3 Comments

Marco Polo & Ruste Juxx have combined forces to bring fans a serious dose of hardcore Hip Hop. The eXXecution is entirely produced by Marco Polo with Ruste Juxx providing gut-wrenching vocals over heavy hitting drums.

Marco Polo explains that a “simple studio session to play beats turned into Ruste Juxx recording 9 songs. The joints came out so crazy that we said let’s turn this into a full-length album. Working with Duck Down all these years it was only a matter of time before Juxx and I got to a specific project. The best part is the work happened organically. Nothing was forced. Ruste came through, heard beats, wrote, recorded…done deal. March 23rd is The eXXecution!”

The album features Buckshot, Sean Price, Freddie Foxxx, Rock of Heltah Skeltah & DJ Revolution.

Ruste Juxx describes the album as “straight eXXecuting. I’m killing off wack MCs and Marco’s murdering the producers. I couldn’t help but to write some killer shit to the beats Marco made. If I wrote something wack to his production, then it’s a wasted beat. I can’t have that! ”
